Program and Job Description:

This program supports a highly dynamic environment that offers rewarding opportunities to think outside the box in order to deliver innovative and sustainable network environments to its customers. In accordance with this effort, they are looking to add to their Sustainment and Maintenance Team with a network administrator/engineer. This position will work both independently and as a member of an integrated product team supporting a wide variety of basic and complex network configurations. 

The position will be performing a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network; apply upgrades and security patches to the existing network architecture as required; as well as document and perform sustainment and maintenance activities, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

·         Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network

·         Plan new configuration for integration into the network, using knowledge of performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to insure effective integration and optimal network performance

·         Prepare technical proposals for presentation to the Sponsor’ s engineering review boards detailing the requirements for adding new technologies to the network

·         Perform enterprise network configuration and maintenance as it relates to Cisco, Juniper, etc. network components, network encryption devices and computer workstations and servers

·         Configure, troubleshoot and design router and multilayer switch configurations

·         Design and plan network communications systems; plan and formulate engineering program

·         Support the program’ s senior leadership personnel and work in project teams from inception to completion including technical assessments, architectural design and planning, integration, testing, and implementation

·         Diagnose network failures and take appropriate steps to timely repair or restore services

·         Document network operating procedures and instructions

·         Support network improvements using approved change management techniques

·         Monitor network performance and issues using tools like SolarWinds, Cisco ADSM and other commercially available tools or approved open source products

·         Conduct continuous monitoring and testing of network designs and configurations for performance and security improvements

·         Create Layer 2/Layer3 provisioning and configuration control board documentation

·         Compose specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture

·         Conduct network topology and site surveys for new systems/requirements

Required Skills:

·         Bachelor’ s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics or equivalent experience.

·         Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in network configuration and maintenance as it relates to network components, network encryption devices, and computer workstations and servers

·         Advanced understanding of networking systems and TCP/IP to include experience in IP addressing and subnetting, network address translation, MTU and QOS

·         Strong knowledge of routing and switching systems (Cisco preferred), routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP), and gateway redundancy protocols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP); to include troubleshooting issues with these protocols

·         Demonstrated knowledge of configuring and managing multicast, virtual LANs, virtual private networks (VPNs), trunking, adaptive security appliances (ASAs), SONET, ATM, MPLS and POS

·         Experience supporting the full engineering lifecycle as it relates to network infrastructures
